ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – The Ithaca Gun smokestack lives to see another day.

Common Council voted 8-1 in favor of funding an assessment study Wednesday night, with Alderperson Cynthia Brock the lone ‘no’ vote. The cost will be split with the property developer where the smokestack sits. The study will determine the condition of the smokestack, and whether or not it can be preserved.

Results from a survey sent out earlier this year suggested the majority of county and city residents were in favor of preservation.
