CORTLAND, N.Y. (WHCU) — Cortland County remains under a state of emergency.

Hotels and motels and property owners are not allowed to house asylum seekers who are entering the county. Leaders say a rapid increase in population would overburden the county’s social services, public health, and emergency services.

The emergency order remains in effect until Friday.
