ALBANY, N.Y. (WHCU) — Nurses across New York are no longer required to work overtime.

The state Labor Department has updated a law, which prevents health care providers from mandating overtime. Nurses will only have to work beyond normal hours under special circumstances, like a health emergency or disaster.

The change to state law is effective immediately.
