Text scam reported in Tompkins County

ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – Tompkins County Sheriff Derek Osborne is warning residents about a text scam.

The Sheriff’s Office has received multiple reports that a text is being sent out claiming participation in a community survey pays $300. Sheriff Osborne says the county is conducting a strategic planning survey but it’s unrelated to the scam. If you receive a message like the one pictured below, do not click it.
