ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) — An investigation into the 2021 death of Alan Godfrey in Ithaca resulted in a large amount of digital evidence.

Tompkins County District Attorney Matt Van Houten tells WHCU there’s no such thing as too much information.

41-year-old William Marshall was sentenced Friday to 20 years in prison. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter in February. Prosecutors were seeking 25 years in prison, which was the maximum sentence.

Despite the sentence, Van Houten says there’s never any satisfaction in tragic cases.
