CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) — A Cortland man will appear in court next week on several charges.
Police say James Gay got into an argument on Aug. 31 with a family member an apartment building on Port Watson St.
“The investigation determined that during the argument, Gay allegedly yelled at the victim and threw a backpack at her, striking her on the right side and arm. Gay also allegedly threw a coffee cup in the victim’s direction, narrowly missing her,” police said. An order of protection had been issued previously for the victim.
Once approached by CPD, officers claim the 33-year-old refused to comply with orders after being told he was under arrest and struck one officer in the face “with a closed fist.”
Gay was charged with the following felonies:
- Criminal possession of a weapon
- Aggravated family offense
- Criminal contempt
In addition, Cortland Police charged Gay with misdemeanor criminal mischief, resisting arrest, and menacing, and 2 counts of harassment (violation). He’s scheduled to appear in Cortland City Court on Sept. 18.
