Authorities: Dryden man tried to set woman, children on fire

DRYDEN, NY (607NewsNow) — A Dryden man is charged with several crimes after a dispute.

53-year-old Matthew Demming allegedly poured gasoline on a woman, two children, and a home, then tried to ignite the gas with a lighter. According to the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, a witness intervened and physically removed Demming, who was arrested shortly after.

The dispute allegedly happened Saturday morning on Schwan Drive in Dryden. Demming is accused of arriving at the home in violation of a court-issued order of protection.

Demming is charged with attempted murder in the second degree, criminal contempt in the first degree, aggravated family offense, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. He was taken to the Tompkins County Jail.
