BINGHAMTON, NY (607NewsNow) – A Binghamton man faces up to five years in federal prison.
Jeffrey Hamm Jr. is accused of posting threatening comments on YouTube in January that were directed at President Donald Trump, his supporters, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
On March 10, the Justice Department did not share the content of the comments but issued a warning.
“The defendant used interstate communications to threaten President Trump, ICE agents, and others with acts of violence,” said First Assistant U.S. Attorney John Sarcone III. “This office, together with the FBI, will pursue anyone who makes such threats swiftly and aggressively. The defendant would have been better off saving his breath; now he’ll have plenty of time to reflect on his words while facing the consequences of them in federal court. Threats of this nature will not be tolerated, and anyone who ignores this warning will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”
The 32-year-old Hamm is charged with making threats to the president and federal agents using interstate communication. It carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison, a fine of up to a $250,000, and three years of post-release supervision.
Hamm was ordered detained pending further proceedings at his initial court appearance on February 27.
