AUBURN, NY (607NewsNow) – Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck will not seek reelection.

On November 11, Sheriff Schenck announced that he intends to retire after his current term, which runs through the end of 2026.

When the time comes, I look forward to passing the leadership of our agency to a new administration – one that I hope will continue to advance our mission and strengthen your Sherrif’s Office, which belongs to the people we serve. – Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck

Schenck, who has spent nearly 30 years in the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office including the last eight as sheriff, says it will allow him to spend more time with family and friends, and pursue new opportunities.

In related news, Tompkins County Sheriff Derek Osborne announced last month he will seek a third term.
