CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) — There’s a new finance director in Cortland.

City officials say Clerence Shager, Junior will lead fiscal operations. Shager comes to Cortland after a decade as city comptroller in Binghamton and treasurer for Johnson City.

“His tenure in Binghamton demonstrates direct experience addressing challenges similar to those currently facing the City of Cortland, including audit delays, deficits, and complex financial operations,” officials stated.

“As the Village of Johnson City’s chief fiscal officer, Shager performed a role comparable in scope to the one he will hold for the City. While Johnson City’s population is less than Cortland’s, its budget and core services are similar,” a statement from the city continued.

Shager replaces Elizabeth Greenwood, whose resignation as finance director became official Tuesday.
