CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) – A Cortland woman faces charges after a child welfare investigation.

On October 8, Cortland Police responded to 25 Arthur Avenue following a report from a concerned party about the well-being of children.

Lori Maricle, 31, is accused of locking a 6-year-old girl in a closet before leaving the residence for about an hour. Maricle allegedly placed a heavy dresser in front of the door, leaving the girl confined and unsupervised in a dark environment. Investigators say Maricle also left behind a 2-year-old and a 7-month-old.

Maricle is charged with felony unlawful imprisonment, misdemeanor reckless endangerment, and misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child.

Bail was set, and Maricle was taken to jail. She is scheduled to appear in Cortland City Court on October 17, at 10 a.m.
