MARATHON, NY (607NewsNow) — Lawmakers in Marathon are keeping a closer watch on financial records.

The town was recently audited by the New York State Comptroller’s Office. According to the audit, Marathon Town Supervisor Tim Elliot didn’t file annual financial reports for 2023 and 2024.

Elliot said the comptroller’s office found “a few other” areas of improvement, including bank reconciliations.

“There were a few checks that hadn’t been cashed yet,” Elliot said. “We’ve contacted those people and got that all straightened out.”

Elliot said the town is now “on top” of its financial reporting.
