WATKINS GLEN, NY (607NewsNow) – A family pet is safe after a rescue in Schuyler County.

On September 30, firefighters were called the North Rim Trail at Watkins Glen State Park around 3:30 p.m. for a trapped dog that had fallen down an embankment.

The pup was reportedly leashed and fell when its harness broke.

The Watkins Glen FD and Montour Falls FD Technical Rope Rescue teams were able to rappel down the embankment and safely secure and recover the dog.

Authorities say the dog was uninjured and returned to its owners. Additionally, no firefighters were injured in the operation.

The Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control, State Police, State Park Police, and WG State Park personnel assisted with the rescue.
