VIRGIL, NY (607NewsNow) – One person is recovering after a rescue near Virgil.

On August 22, the Cortlandville Fire Department responded to Hoxies Gorge trails around 3:30 p.m. for a report that someone had fallen while hiking and was injured.

Using phone plots from the Cortland County Department of Emergency Response, multiple agencies located the hiker roughly a quarter of a mile in the trail system. With assistance from the Virgil Fire Department’s four-wheelers, the person was removed from the woods to a waiting ambulance.

It was the second hiker rescue in Cortland County last week, after crews rescued a man who had a medical emergency on August 19 in Kennedy State Forest near Lapeer.
