DRYDEN, NY (607NewsNow) — The Dryden Fire Department responded to a reported furnace fire in a single-story residential home at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, January 4th.

While fire units were en route, the Dryden Police Department arrived on scene and confirmed an active structure fire. Upon receiving this information, Fire Chief Tyler (561) upgraded the incident to a second-alarm response.

Dryden firefighters arrived and confirmed an active fire in the basement of the residence. Crews initiated an aggressive interior fire attack, suppressing the majority of the fire. Firefighters then conducted additional operations to extinguish remaining fire extension. Primary and secondary searches of the entire structure were completed, confirming that all residents had safely exited the home and that no occupants were inside.

Due to the nature of the incident, mutual aid and additional manpower were requested from the following departments: Freeville, Groton, McLean, Varna, Lansing, Cayuga Heights, Slaterville, Cortlandville, and Virgil. These agencies assisted on scene and provided standby coverage at the Dryden Fire Station.

Also responding to the incident were the Dryden Police Department, the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, and the Town of Dryden Code Enforcement Office.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No firefighter injuries were reported.
