ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – Ithaca is trying to make a city street safer for pedestrians and drivers.

On October 20, crews began installing traffic-calming speed bumps on Spencer Road, one in the 500 block and one in the 600 block.

Officials say that part of Spencer Road will be closed for the duration of the project.

The work is expected to wrap up Oct. 23, but could go longer based on weather or unexpected findings.

In related news, the DOT recently began installing safety improvements at the intersection of Pine Tree Road and Route 79 in Ithaca.
