ITHACA, NY (607NewsNow) – State Police are doing their part to fulfill a pledge to plant more trees.

On October 8, troopers were joined by New York State Inspector General Lucy Lang and others to plant nine red maple saplings at the Ithaca barracks.

Additional planting took place at Treman Park, Cornell’s Newman Arboretum, and the Office of Children and Family Services.

It’s part of Governor Hochul’s initiative to plant 25 million trees by 2033, which she announced during her 2024 State of the State Address.

So far, the Southern Tier leads the way in tree plantings. You can track progress on the DEC’s official initiative dashboard here.
