Newfield man sentenced in counterfeit bill crime

WATKINS GLEN, NY (607NewsNow) – A Newfield man will spend time behind bars.

On March 26, 38-year-old John Chaffee was sentenced to 1.5 to 3 years in State Prison after accepting a plea deal on a felony charge of attempted criminal possession of a forged instrument in Schuyler County Court.

District Attorney Jeremy Hourihan says Chaffee, who has a previous felony conviction, admitted to attempting to use a counterfeit $100 bill at a Dollar General in Montour Falls in November 2024.
