DRYDEN, NY (607NewsNow) – Everyone is safe after a fire at Dryden Middle/High School (MS/HS).

On January 7, the entire MS/HS student body was bused to TC3 after a fire in a bathroom trash can.

The Dryden Fire Department responded and extinguished the blaze, which was limited to a small area in the bathroom. According to Superintendent Josh Baciagalupi, the decision to relocate students was made because the fire alarm would not reset, indicating a potential further issue.

A technician from the district’s fire alarm vendor reset the alarm, and later, a TST BOCES Environmental Health and Safety officer cleared the building.

Students remained on the TC3 campus until they were dismissed around 3:30 p.m. Some were taken back to MS/HS to collect their house keys.  All other district schools dismissed normally, but elementary school bus routes were delayed. All after-school activities and events were canceled.

Dryden FD says the fire is under investigation by school officials and law enforcement.
