Severe thunderstorm warning and watch issued in CNY, including Tompkins and Cortland Counties


ITHACA, NY (CortacaToday) – The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for much of the region until tonight, and a severe thunderstorm warning this afternoon in Northwestern Tompkins County.

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued until 3:30 p.m. in Northwestern Tompkins County, South Central Cayuga County, Northeastern Schuyler County, and Southeastern Seneca County. Heavy rainfall, flash flooding, hail, and wind gusts of up to 60mph are possible.

Potentially heavy rains and wind could accompany t-storms in 27 counties throughout the rest of the day, including Tompkins, Cortland, and Tioga. Residents are encouraged to monitor the situation and take precautions if necessary. A watch is in effect until 8 p.m. in the following counties:
