ALBANY, NY (607NewsNow) — Gov. Kathy Hochul wants to help youngsters in New York get summer jobs.
The governor is dedicating $56.5 million to help roughly 21,000 young people from low-income families statewide to find work through the state’s Summer Youth Employment Program. Tompkins County will see $435,842, Cortland County is getting $166,684, and Tioga County nets $140,943.
“Investing in our young people’s future and providing them with the resources and tools they need to succeed is a top priority of my administration,” Hochul said. “The Summer Youth Employment Program helps young New Yorkers across the state find good summer jobs that provide valuable experiences and skills that will help them pursue their educational and career goals and prepare them for success in the workforce as adults.”
Young people who qualify are between the ages of 14 and 20 with a household income below 200% of the federal poverty level, which is $53,300 for a family of 3.
Last year, state officials say Summer Youth Employment Program helped over 21,000 teenagers find work.
