OWEGO, NY (607NewsNow) -Tioga County is asking local groups and organizations for assistance.

Ahead of summer, Tioga County Public Health is looking to add more designated cooling centers.

Air-conditioned buildings such as libraries, schools, community centers, senior centers, and malls are ideal. Community pools, shaded parks, and beaches are also acceptable. Officials say providing access to AC can help limit illnesses like heat stroke, as well as reduce hospital visits and EMS calls.
