CORTLANDVILLE, NY (607NewsNow) – Two people are recovering after a crash in Cortlandville.

On October 8, a motorcycle allegedly made an unsafe lane change on Route 13 and failed to notice a car making a left turn.

According to State Police, the motorcycle, driven by 19-year-old Jeffrey Thomas, of Cortland, sideswiped the turning vehicle. Thomas and his passenger, 27-year-old Thomas Allbright, of Cortland, were thrown from the bike.

Both men were taken to Guthrie Cortland Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The operator of the car, 31-year-old Brandon Slack, of Cortland, was not hurt.

According to AAA, fatal motorcycle crashes have risen steadily over the last several years, including in 2023, which was the deadliest year since 1975, with 6,335 motorcyclists killed.
