Virgil brush fire successfully contained, officials say

VIRGIL, NY (607NewsNow) — A brush fire in Virgil is out. 

Firefighters say a burning brush pile quickly spread Sunday afternoon, though it was contained to about a quarter acre of property on Tower Rd.

According to the Virgil Fire Department, the owner “tried to extinguish the spreading fire with buckets of water but was unsuccessful.”

“The bulk of the fire was knocked down by 17:08. We then overhauled the areas around the burned area,” authorities added.

The New York State DEC was notified because of the statewide burn ban, which remains in place until May 14.
